Abstract:

Background Smoking causes many diseases. Smokers die sooner than the non-smokers. Smokers get sick more often, their medical treatment lasts longer, they take sick-leave more often. WHO puts smoking into the group of the most important health ruining factors in the world Smoking is a medical, cultural, social, economy and family problem.

 

Objectiv Study how many smokers there are after aplying the smoking control law. Enlight the problem of smoking in our community, Try to find a solution together, Become aware of smokers problem, Show good will to help smokers.

 

Method We made a questionnaire for 144 health-workers, 29 male and 85 female. We had conversations and tried to get any suggestions about possible solutionsand have sorted out the results. We've compared them with the answers from previous questionnaires.

 

Results Our results are: 62% of smokers are with secondary education , 29% with higher, 4% with high education and 5% with elementary education . The most frequent are in the age over 51, 42%, from 41-50 years 33%, from 31 to 40 18% and younger then 30 years only 7% , 51% are smokers, 49% non-smokers, 42% of smokers are women.23% of smokers smoke over 30 years, 68% smoke over 16 years.From the total number of smokers, only 12% smoke less then 10 years. In the earlier questionnaire 99% was approving that it is necessary to prohibit smoking.

 

Conclusion Although there are big financial problems and the already existing law regulations regarding smoking in public places a great number of medical workers still smoke and have no intention of giving up cigarettes. They are completely aware of damaging effects of smoking.
