Introduction:Nursing chart is a mean of documenting the nursing process, individual and collective and it is also an important part of documentation of health patient history. This chart gives understandable information for individual health and serves as a database for scientific research. The chart that is actually in use in the pediatric ward of Vlora hospital is a approved model for the Ministry of Health March 2013. From that moment on, this same chart is used on other wards of the hospital.

 

Aim of the study:Evaluation of the new model application of the nursing chart in the pediatric ward of Vlora regional hospital in order to notice the improvement of the nursing documentation Objectives: Evaluation of the application of the new nursing charting model in the pediatric ward of Vlora regional hospital; comparison of the old and new pediatric chart areas; evaluation of the defects of actual nursing chart; evaluation of the improvement of the nursing documentation Alternative hypotheses: Application of the new model of nursing chart in the pediatric ward of Vlora hospital does have an impact on nursing documentation.

 

Methods and materials This is an experimental study conducted during the time period of March- June 2013. The measuring instruments were the questionnaire, the new chart, and the interview for the nurses who worked with the new chart. I used 300 new charts distributed in two pediatric wards, for three months, 100 charts each month, and I compared the way the charts were documented on. The nurses worked voluntarily.

 

Results:The study shows that the new model had an impact on:The positive attitude that the nursing staff had by working with this model, 90% think that this chart is efficient; they were satisfied to work with this model; the new areas added to the chart help on nursing care; higher nursing documentation on the new model compared with the old one (OR=3.36); accuracy of the documentation on the new model compared with the old one (OR=2.3); the devising of the information form one shift to the other was improved with the new model; nursing care, objectives and goals, planne d interventions and projected results in the new model even though present in 100% of the charts, it is still a negotiable concept; improved nursing knowledge.
