Abstract:
Background In many countries HIV / AIDS is seen and treated as a health issue, ignoring the social, economic and human dimensions that impact on both prevention and treatment of it.(1)
Objective The objective of this study is to evaluate the knowledge and attitudes of nurses towards patients with HIV / AIDS.
Material & methods This is a cross-sectional study (transversal), conducted at the Regional Hospital nursing staff Vlore, and city health centers who randomly were interviewed in the working environment during the period November 2014 - June 2015. The data were received through questionnaires filled out by nursing care staff during individual interviews at the workplace.
Results Age of respondents ranges from 22 years old to 60 years old with Rat. 40 ± 10 (DS). From inquiries made revealed that: overall average level of accuracy associated with knowledge about HIV transmission routes resulted in about 54% .28.4% ( 95% CI: 21%-34%) of the staff thinks that these individuals should be isolated. 16%( 95% CI: 10%-21%) of them declare that the use of common utensils with a person with HIV is a source of infection. The average level of accuracy in the block associated with the stigma responses resulted in 64%( 95% CI: 57%-70%). Only 33%( 95% CI: 26%-39%) of staff think that a mother with HIV has the right to bear children. 56%( 95% CI: 48%-63%) reported a pronounced stigma that patients with HIV should be kept away from other patients.
