Abstract:
Bacground: Diabetic nephropathy (DN) is the leading cause of kidney disease in diabetic patients. It increases the risk of death, mainly from cardiovascular causes.
Objectives: To evaluate the correlation of DN with other diabetes chronic complications and the impact on DN of other clinical parameters.
Methods: In this restrospective study we enrolled 249 pacients (152 males and 97 females), with a mean age 53.09 ± 15.96 years, diagnosed with type 1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) in the Endocrinology Service of UHC “Mother Teresa” during a 5 year period.
Results: Micro and macroalbuminuria for both types of diabetes is more significant in patients with HbA1c >10% (p = 0.015). Through the Spearmen’s correlation coefficient results a negative correlation, statistically significant, between BMI and diabetic nephropathy for the total population (r = - 0.247, p).
