Abstract:

Cardiocircular system diseases constitute today the main cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. According to WHO statistics in 2004 there were 17.1 million deaths from diseases of the above, while in 2020 this figure is expected to reach 25 million. Even in our country, as in many other countries of the Balkans, the 40-year period (1970-2010) mortality from ischemic cardio-pathologies, at all ages per 100 thousand inhabitants, an increase of 25.6%, at a time the European Community is noted a decrease of 46.2%. Even in Kosovo, in the period 1995 - 2010, it is demonstrated by the increased mortality from ischemic cardio-pathologies in value of 11.1%.

Unsatisfactory data on the above indicators have originated in the abandonment of traditional nutrition and its replacement with lifestyle and nutrition-type Western countries, characterized by almost daily consumption of food products and by-products of animal origin rich in saturated fats (saturated). These changes in lifestyle and nutrition, insufficient or complete physical inactivity, smoking, etc. are the leading causes of morbidity epidemic growth and mortality from cardiocircular system diseases, various forms of cancer, sugar diabetes, and the incidence of obesity and hypertension it is almost in most countries of the world on high values.

Rather '' Seven Countries Study "highlighted the advantages of the traditional way of living and eating Cretan population, as the best way to confront the "epidemic" of chronic diseases. Adaptation of this traditional way of eating, which is rich in substances with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory action, coupled with systematic physical exercise and implementation of programs long - term educational interventions - health in the whole population, especially in individuals who hoard risk factors, in order to receive hygiene habits lifestyle and nutrition, is the only solution to avoid, reduce or even to confront the increasing indicators of morbidity and mortality from chronic diseases.
